Huvar, Alice (Westphal)

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Alice Huvar January '2 at Dulany Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Krupicka of Grace Lutheran Church of Eagle Lake officiating. Interment was at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Frelsburg.

Mrs. Huvar was born October 17, 1905 in Frelsburg to Hugo and Helene Kickler Westphal.

She was united in marriage to Ben Huvar in 1954 in Hallettsville. She was the owner-manager of Huvar's Grocery in Garwood and a member of the Lutheran Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ben Huvar

Survivors are two sisters, Lorene and Viola Westphal of Frelsburg; two brothers, Herbert and Willard Westphal of Frelsburg; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Dulany Funeral Home of Eagle Lake.

Huvar, Ben L.

Funeral services for Ben L. Huvar, 71, of Garwood were held Friday morning from the Mill-Bauer chapel in Eagle Lake, Msgr. Victor Schmidtzinsky officiated.

Cremation following the service was under the direction of Mill-Bauer Funeral Home. [Memorial marker Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Frelsburg]

He died Tuesday, Jan. 26, at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Huvar was born Oct. 18, 1910, in Garwood the son of Henry and Frances Matzek Huvar.

He owned and operated Huvar's Grocery Store in Garwood for 20 years before retiring. Huvar was a member of the Catholic Church and served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Westphal Huvar of Garwood and one sister, Mrs. Adele Knolle of Sandia, Texas.

Huvar

Edith Ruth Huvar, 97, of Garwood, passed away Aug. 18.

She was born Feb. 17, 1907 to Edward Richard Frnka and Annie K. (Kallina) Frnka. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nada, Nada Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Huvar; son, William Edward Huvar; brothers, Henry and W.R. Frnka; and one sister, Irene Meyer.
She is survived by daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Huvar of Houston; sons, Jack L. Huvar of Garwood, Frnka Huvar and wife, Sandra, of Garwood; and sister, Charlyne Williams of Garwood.

Funeral services were conducted Aug. 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nada with the Rev. Joseph Koebel officiating. Inter-ment followed at the church cemetery in Nada.

Pallbearers were Walter Braden, Mike Huvar, Jon Kyle Huvar, James Jurica, Joshua Jurica, Kenneth Brune, Philip Huvar and George Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Huvar, Doug Huvar, Robert Raley, John Williams, Richard Williams, Bill Olsen and Jim Jurica.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Garwood Volunteer Fire Department.

Huvar, Francisek

On Wednesday night of last week, at the family home in the northern part of town, Mr. Frank Huvar, an aged and good citizen of this community, passed unto his eternal reward, after a long illness. Mr. Huvar’s condition had been precarious for many days, and at his advanced age, but little hope was held out for him after the seriousness of his illness was realized. The remains were prepared for burial and on Saturday morning, after services were held at St. Michael’s Church the body was tenderly conveyed to St. Michael’s Cemetery and laid to rest in the presence of a large assemblage of mourning relatives and friends. Rev. Jos. Szymanski officiating in a touching burial service.

Mr. Huvar was born in Czecho-Slovakia, Dec. 1845, came to Texas Nov. 17, 1882, with his family, consisting at that time of his wife and five children. The family landed at Galveston and then proceeded to this section, where Mr. Huvar spent the remainder of his life, living at all times within a radius of three miles of Weimar. His first wife died Aug. 23, 1891. He afterward remarried. Throughout his life Mr. Huvar followed the occupation of farmer, and was quite successful. He was at all times, up to his last illness, active in church and school work. it will be remembered that years ago a school was established in the northern city limits and named for Mr. Huvar. During his lifetime Mr. Huvar was a quiet, good citizen, a man who believed in the precepts of the golden rule, and by all regarded as a model, good citizen and neighbor. Mr. Huvar raised a large family of children, the most of them now grown and settled in life.

He is survived by his widow and eleven children, as follows: Frank Huvar, Jr., of Hillje, Wharton county; Sister Mary Philbert of Providence Convent, now teaching school at Frydek, near Sealy, in Waller county; J. R. Huvar of Yoakum, W. H. Huvar of Garwood, Fred Huvar of Victoria, W. J. Huvar of Flatonia, Mrs. Mary Schindler of Victoria, Mrs. Annie Macek of Needville, Cyril Huvar of El Campo, and Misses Genevieve and Theresa Huvar of this city, besides 37 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. All of Mr. Huvar’s children were present at the funeral. A touching feature of the funeral was that six of Mr. Huvar’s sons officiated as pall bearers.

Huvar, Genevieve

Funeral For Miss Huvar Held Sept. 19

Funeral services for Miss Genevieve Huvar, 92, of Weimar were held Saturday, Sept. 19, from St. Michael's Catholic Church, with burial in the parish cemetery. Father Charles Carolan officiated.

Miss Huvar died Thursday, Sept. 17.

Born Oct. 28, 1895, at Weimar, she was a daughter of Frank and Mary (Kabot) Huvar. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and St. Ann's Society.

She is survived by a sister, Miss Teresa Huvar, of Weimar; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Emma Huvar of Flatonia and numerous nieces and nephews. Six brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

Serving as pallbearers were Val Huvar, Adolph Matcek, Harry Beck, Ray (Buddy) Kusey, John Hajovsky and Ridenour.

Huvar, Mary (Kabot)

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Huvar, 93, one of Weimar’s oldest citizens, were held this (Thursday) morning at Hubbard Funeral Home and St. Michael’s Church, with burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Huvar, who had been in poor health for a number of years, became seriously ill last Friday. She died at noon Tuesday in Youens Hospital.

Born in Europe Sept. 24, 1860, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Kabot, she came to this country as a young girl, settling near Weimar. In 1892 she was married to Frank Huvar, who died in 1929. She was probably the oldest living member of St. Michael’s Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Misses Theresa and Genevieve Huvar, both of Weimar; a son, Cyril Huvar of El Campo; three step-daughters, Mrs. Adolf Matzke of Needville, Mrs. Joe Schindler of Deer Park and Sister Philebert of Our Lady of the Lake Convent in San Antonio, Texas; two stepsons, Fred Huvar of Victoria and Will Huvar of Houston; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

MR. FRANK HUWARD[sic], whose little baby was buried last week in the Catholic cemetery, has again been deprived of a valuable helpmeet in the person of his wife, who died Sunday last of consumption. In this double loss, Mr. Huward[sic] has the sympathy of the entire community.

Huvar, Thekla

Mrs. Thekla Huvar, the aged mother of Mr. Huvar of this section, died Sunday and the remains were laid to rest in St. Michael’s cemetery, this city, Monday afternoon. She was 90 years of age , and loved and respected by a large circle of acquaintances. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the bereaved family.
