BALLINGER - Jewell G. Dean, 91, died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Henry Chisholm officiating. Burial will be in Old Runnels Cemetery , directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dean was born in Baird and worked as a self-employed seamstress for many years. She was the widow of Ernest Herbert "Hub" Dean, whom she married in 1923 in Paint Rock.

Survivors include two sons, Herbert H. Dean and Bill Dean, both of Ballinger; one daughter, Martha Palmer of Ballinger; one sister, Ada Wilson of Greenwood, Miss.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

LaVelle C. Greer, 83, died Sunday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road , with the Rev. David Ray officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park .

Mrs. Greer was born and grew up in Abilene and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1935. She was past secretary to the Abilene Independent School District superintendent and was a member of First Baptist Church . She lived in Washington , D.C. , serving as head of personnel for the federal government from 1946-1970. She moved to Austin in 1970 and returned to Abilene in 1972. She was the widow of Terry C. Hays and married John H. Greer in 1985 in Paint Rock.

Survivors include her husband, of Abilene ; one stepdaughter, Stacey Rhiddlehoover of Abilene ; one stepson, Dale Greer of Round Rock; nine stepgrandchildren and 17 stepgreat-grandchildren.

COLEMAN - Bobby Carl Fenton, 41, died Sunday at a Lubbock hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Robinett officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery .

Mr. Fenton was born and grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School . He was a pipeline contractor and a Baptist. He married Vicki Jones in 1978 in Paint Rock.

Survivors include his wife, of Coleman; two sons, Chad Garrett and Clay Bob Fenton, both of Fenton; his stepmother, Noreta Fenton of Coleman; two stepbrothers, four stepsisters and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

WINTERS -- William Lee Colburn, 80, died Friday in an Eden nursing home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Winters First United Methodist Church with Dr. Gary Torian officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery , directed by Winters Funeral Home.

Mr. Colburn was born in San Saba and graduated from Winters High School and Texas A&M University . He married Dorece Clary in 1937 in Hearne. He worked in South Carol ina for 36 years with the U.S.D.A.'s Soil Conservation Service and returned to Winters in 1976. He was mayor of Winters for eight years and was active in the Lions Club and First United Methodist Church .

Survivors include his wife, of Winters; two brothers, Douglas Colburn of Winters and James Clayton Colburn of Quitman; and four sisters, Emily Mathis of San Antonio, Neva Puckett and Nell Bowen, both of Winters, and Deulah Howard of San Angelo.

BALLINGER -- Herman B. Price, 84, of San Angelo and formerly of Ballinger, died Wednesday in a San Angelo hospital.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Christian Church in San Angelo with the Revs. Ben Hubert and Winford Gore officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery , directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home.

Mr. Price was born in Rochelle to pioneer Concho County ranchers and graduated from high school in Millersview. He attended San Angelo College and John Tarleton College in Stephenville and married Margaret Kitchens in 1936. He helped raise Rambouillet sheep and Black Angus cattle near Millersview and Paint Rock before moving to Ballinger in 1948. He also ranched near Eden .

He was a member of Paint Rock Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a past Rotarian club president and served on the Runnels County school board for many years. He also was a director of the Ballinger Memorial Hospital for several years and was an honorary member of the hospital's auxiliary. He was a life member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association and was a past board chairman of Paint Rock First State Bank. He was a longtime leader of the Ballinger Downtown Bible Class. He was an elder and board member of First Christian Church in Ballinger and taught Sunday school for many years. He also was a member of First Christian Church in San Angelo .

Survivors include his wife, of San Angelo ; one son, H. Paul Price of Houston ; one daughter, Pamela Price Murfee of Lubbock; and four grandchildren.

Clyde 'Sug' Sheffield

BROWNWOOD - Clyde M. "Sug" Sheffield , 80, died Sunday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Santa Anna Cemetery .

Mr. Sheffield was born in Concho County and had lived in Brown County for 55 years. He was a retired truck driver and a Baptist. He married Avis Wilma Click in 1937 in Concho.

Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood ; four daughters, Wilma Preston and Gayle Ogden, both of Brownwood , Sharron Holland of May and Vickie Ford of Bryan ; two brothers, David Sheffield of Grosvenor and Elmer Sheffield of Paint Rock; one sister, Rena Jones of Novice; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Winroe 'Windy' Jacoby

COLEMAN -- Winroe "Windy" Jacoby, 77, of Lake Coleman , died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jim Considine and Joan Rudolph officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. in Eden Cemetery .

Mr. Jacoby was born in Concho County and graduated from Eden High School . He married La Nell Siler in 1942 in Concho County and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He managed the 9 Bar Ranch while living in Harris County from 1956-78. He then moved to Hempstead . He moved to Lake Coleman in 1989 and ranched in Concho, Harris and Waller counties. He was a Lutheran.

Survivors include his wife, of Lake Coleman; two sons, Sam Jacoby of Hempstead and Monte J. Jacoby of Cuero; two brothers, Leonard Jacoby of Eden and Aaron Jacoby of Choctaw, Ark.; two sisters, Evelyn Headley of Gillette, N.J., and Jo Ann Burton of Abilene; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Crump was born in Paris , Texas , and married Durwood Lee Crump in 1925 in Annona. She was a homemaker and moved to Abilene in 1927 from Eden . She was a member of First Central Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, of Abilene ; and one nephew and one niece.

Mrs. Patterson was born in Valera and graduated from high school in Ballinger in 1939. She had lived in the Pumphrey community most of her life and was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married Milton Patterson in 1939 in Paint Rock.

Survivors include her husband of Winters; one son, John Lynn Patterson of Premont; one daughter, Judy Gersbach of Brownfield; two brothers, Odis Reneau of San Angelo and Cliff Reneau of Burnet; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren

William Milton Patterson

WINTERS -- William Milton Patterson, 80, died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Services were held Tuesday in Winters Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Shoemake officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery .

Mr. Patterson was born in San Benito and moved to Runnels County in 1921. He was a farmer. He was a Baptist and was the widow of Marcelle Reneau Patterson, whom he married in 1939 in Paint Rock.

Survivors include one son, John Lynn Patterson of Premont; one daughter, Judy Gersbach of Brownfield; four sisters, Imogene Onken of Fort Worth , Betty Jo Brown and Annie Belle Pierce, both of Winters, and Karen Nell Hancock of Wingate; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Alma Izola Head

Alma Izola Head, 80, of Abilene died Sunday at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Morgan officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory .

Mrs. Head was born in Mullin and graduated from high school in Trigger Mountain . She was a beautician for many years and later a nurse's aide at Concho County Nursing Home in Eden , retiring in 1988. She moved to Abilene from Eden in 1 99 0 and was a homemaker. She attended First Assembly of God in Clyde .

Survivors include one son, Harold Head of Birmingham, Ala.; one daughter, Wanda Allen of Abilene; three sisters, Burah Ledbetter, Flora Czech and Maurine Gridley, all of Killeen; five grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Joe Carlton Scales, 66, steel worker for Central Texas Iron Works for 28 years until retiring, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Pioneer Drive Baptist Church wit the Rev. Jack Ridlehoover and Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will be in Potosi Cemetery , directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.

Mr. Scales was born in Paint Rock and married Rita Phillips in 1951 in Abilene . He was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church .

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene ; two sons, Rickey Scales of Dallas and Mickey G. Scales of Abilene ; one daughter, Vickie J. Lane of Abilene ; one brother, L.C. Scales Jr. of Abilene ; one sister, Ica Mae Crow of Abilene ; and four grandchildren.

Mr. Green was born in Oklahoma and served with the U.S. Army. He married Ann Tatom in 1959 and worked as a truck driver for 10 years until retiring. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church .

Survivors include his wife, of Merkel; one son, Dennis Green of San Antonio ; one daughter, Donna Riggan of Merkel; one brother, J.T. Green of Lubbock; and two grandchildren.

WINTERS - Hugh Lee McGuffin, 99 , died Thursday in a local nursing home.

Mr. McGuffin was born in Mason County and married Annie Frances Laman in 1923 in Menard. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Concho County and was a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Gordon C. McGuffin and Dawson McGuffin, both of Winters; two daughters, Frances Imogene Pentecost of Early and Thelma Pearl King of Smith ville, Miss. ; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

COLEMAN -- Emma Watson, age 85, of Coleman, died Saturday, August 12, 2006 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center . Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 15 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Frasier officiating and assisted by Rev. Derek Triggs. Burial will follow in the Leaday Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Emma Joy Blair on January 10, 1921 in Concho County , Texas , a daughter of Frank and Flora Winkle Blair. She grew up in Concho County and attended school at Liberty Hill and Millersview. She was married to Anon Fenwick; he preceded her in death in 1946. She later married Raymond Watson and he died in 1965. Mrs. Watson moved to Coleman in 1961 and was employed at the sewing factory. She was raised a Baptist but had attended the Nazarene Church for the last several years.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce and husband C. R. Dalton of Coleman, Kay and husband Kenneth Foote of Odessa; five grandchildren, Tammy Blair of Lake Ivie, Becky Hatchett of Lamesa, Michael Barkemeyer of Coleman, Gregory Barkemeyer of Norfolk, Virginia, Letitia Palmer of Odessa; eleven great-grandchildren, Wesley Lowe, Camden Lowe, Brady Hatchett, Sheldon Lowe, Cassandra Barkemeyer, Ashlee Wells, Justin Barkemeyer, Alana Barkemeyer, Joshua Barkemeyer, Kasen Palmer, Zachary Barkemeyer; one sister, Adella Walden of Coleman.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Louie Blair and Gerald Blair.

Family visitation will be held on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

Llewellyn 'Lou' Ganoe, 81, died Thursday, November 2, 2006 , at an Abilene care center.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South with Rev. Larry Baird officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park . Visitation will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The daughter of Henrietta (Kendrick) and Elmer Edward Parkinson, Lou was born on March 17, 1925 in White Point ( Concho County ), Texas , and attended school in Ballinger. She married Andrew G. Ganoe on August 21, 1945 in Coleman, and moved from Sweetwater to Abilene in 1953. She was a homemaker, and worked for Meals On Wheels a year and Abilene Independent

School District three years. Mrs. Ganoe was a member of Abundant Life Church in Abilene .

She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, William Parkinson and Marvin Parkinson.

Survivors include her husband, Andrew Ganoe of Abilene; daughters, Betty Laraine Morris and husband, Stanley, and Marynetta June Cooper, all of Abilene; brothers, Vernice Ray Parkinson of Big Spring; sisters, Grace Ratcliff of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Juanita June Tenny of San Angelo; and five grandchildren.

Billy Jack Gary

Bill Gary, 80 of Goldboro, passed away Saturday evening at Runnels County Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home in Ballinger.

Billy Jack Gary was born August 3rd, 1926 outside Junction, Texas to James Pearce Gary and Eva Mae Phillips. Mr. Gary was a direct descendant of Davy Crockett and a member of a long line of west Texas ranchers.

At age 25 Bill met and married Marlene Thomas of Ft. Worth . Together they raised 5 children.

Always dedicated to family and hard work, Bill moved his family around Texas ranching and working at various jobs, but eventually returned to his roots in the west Texas area where he spent the last 26 years ranching in Coleman and Concho counties.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene Gary of Goldsboro, his sons, Bill Gary of Midlothian, TX, Odis Gary and wife, Julie of Ballinger, and Jason Gary and wife, Beth of Ft. Worth; 2 daughters, Jacqueline Gary and Charlie Turner of Noodle, TX, and Kaylene and Jim Lavene of Rockwall, TX; grandchildren, Brittany Gary of Oakland, CA, Lauren and Landon Lavene of Rockwall, TX, Megan Gary of Midlothian, TX, Meagan Knisley of Ft. Worth and Jarod Knisley of Virginia Beach, VA. Mr. Gary is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 10 A.M. to Noon at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held graveside at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 4th, 2007 at the Atoka Cemetery in Coleman County .

Katie Bell (Robinson) Lee

Katie Bell (Robinson) Lee, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother has been called home. Kate passed away Monday, August 14, 2006 in Ballinger Memorial Hospital at the age of 89.

Kate was born March 13, 1917 in Grimes County to Florence (Blount) and Seth Robinson. They moved to Concho County in the fall of 1920 and then to Crews in Runnels County where she met the love of her life, Roy W. Lee, who preceded her in death March 5, 1980 . They were married on June 22, 1936 in Runnels County .

Kate worked for Dry's Manufacturing in Winters for several years and made many delicious hamburgers for Jumbo Burger in Ballinger where she worked until she was 82 years old. Kate was a member of Seventh Street Baptist Church in Ballinger for many years.

Also preceding her in death were: sister "Big Sister"; brothers Shep, J.P., Gordon, and Wallace; sisters Dorothy King and Mary Moore; her father and mother Seth and Florence Robinson; grandparents James and Nannie Blount, George and Kate Robinson; son-in-law Warren Hedrick; father and mother-in-law John and Valera Lee.

Survivors include: a son, Freddie Lee of Ballinger; three daughters, Carolyn Martin and husband Billy Joe of Lake Ivie, Donna Hedrick, and Anne Rogers and husband Gene of Tuscola; brother W.E. "Dub" Robinson and wife Jearetta of Ballinger, brother-in-law John Moore of Ballinger, sister-in-law Lorrene Lee of Ballinger; special sister-in-law Jennie Margaret Lee of Abilene; 15 grandchildren, including one grandson, Ricky Clark, who was raised as a son; 36 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and one long-time friend Tina Harris.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Ricky Clark, Jody Weaver, Doug and Sheldon Collins, Bruce Witter, and John Roy Lee.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 17, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Funeral service will be at Seventh Street Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2006 . Burial will follow at Crews Cemetery .

WINTERS -- Dorothy Joiner Gray, 73, of Winters was called to the house of the Lord on Saturday April 7, 2007 in Abilene . Dorothy has always gone to the Easter services each and every year, this year she has gone to spend it with Jesus, her husband and her other relatives that have preceded her.

Funeral services will be held at the Winters Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 10 at 2:00 P.M. Burial will be at Old Runnels Cemetery following with dinner at Hopewell Baptist Church in Crews. Rev. Ferris Akins will be officiating the service.

Dorothy was born September 1, 1933 in Paint Rock, Texas , the daughter of William and Florence Joiner. She was married to Tommie Gray, Sr. on September 15, 1951 and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1991 .

Dorothy was a loving wife and mother before she began her career for Johnson and Johnson (Ethicon) in San Angelo . She was known and loved by many friends and co-workers she made during the 20-plus years before she retired.

Dorothy came from a family of 15 and is survived by two sisters; Frances Harrison of San Angelo and Helen (Cricket) Morris of Houston . She has always expressed her love and appreciation for her many brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews and other relatives on both the Gray and Joiner family branches.

Dorothy is survived by: 4 daughters and 2 sons, Kay and Robert Russell of Winters, Gary and Jullie Gray of Fort Worth, Debra and Jack ey Clough of North Richland Hills, Tommie Gray Jr. and Christine Willsey of Granbury, Carol and Johnny Yates of Abilene, Pamela and Randal Barnes of Winters; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and she looked forward with great anticipation to each and every visit.

Your family and friends will grieve from your physical absence but will continue to thrive on your loving memories.

BRADSHAW -- Katherine Faye Jacoby Kohutek, age 76, of Bradshaw, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 23, 2006 .

She was born on January 22, 1930 in Eden , Texas , and graduated from Eden High School . She attended Texas Women's College in Denton . She married Al Kohutek on November 5, 1951 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Eden, having a double wedding ceremony with her twin sister Mae and Marvin Hoelscher. She worked at Timex and Texas Instruments. They lived in Ballinger and Abilene and retired to Bradshaw. She enjoyed softball, dancing, hunting and fishing, quilting, gathering pecans, raising Chihuahuas , and sharing her canned wild plum jelly with everyone she knew. She loved being with her dog Jaggar. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church of Winters.

She is survived by her husband: Al Kohutek of Bradshaw; 2 sons and 2 daughters: Greg Kohutek and wife, Vickie of Buffalo Gap, Michael Kohutek and wife, Lori of Abilene, Brenda Holland and husband, Benny of Fulshear and Rhonda Behrens and husband, Joe of College Station; 5 brothers: Henry Jacoby, Rector Jacoby, Chester Jacoby, and Dan Jacoby of Melvin and Johnny Jacoby of Brady; 11 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Lola Kruse Jacoby, her twin sister, Mae Hoelscher Woods, and 2 infant daughters.

Family visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Winters Funeral Home. Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with Rev. Santiago Udayar and Rev. Louis Miller officiating.

Burial will be in Lemons Gap Cemetery under the direction of the Winters Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Bo Holland, Cory Kohutek, Kendall Kohutek, Cullen Kohutek, Benny Hoelscher and Gail Wood.

Jessie Williams, 86, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007 , at Crestview Healthcare Residence in Waco .

Services will be at 2:00 PM , Saturday, March 31, at the Resthaven Mausoleum Chapel in Lubbock , Scott Talley officiating. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 PM in the mausoleum chapel.

Jessie was born May 20, 1920 , in Eden , Texas to John Fredrick Thomas and Callie Lloyd Thomas. She attended grade school in Noodle, Abilene and Tye and high school in San Saba and Richland Springs. Her senior year she moved to Noodle and graduated from Noodle High School . There she met Wilson Williams and they married on June 11, 1938 . She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Texas Tech bookstore and library. She was a member of the Church of Christ .

She is survived by children Jane Williams Gamble and husband Joe Don of Friendswood, Steve Williams and wife Kay of Waco, and Gayle Williams Millican and husband Terry of Rowlett; grandchildren Joel Gamble of Fayetteville, AR, David Gamble and wife Melanie of Arlington, Jessamy Millican Boyd and husband Bill of Raleigh, NC, Travis Millican of Rowlett, and Garrett & Grant Williams of Waco. She was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers, and is survived by one sister, Polly Amason of Abilene .
